PRESS RELEASE – 22nd June 2011

Double Young Entrepreneur Aids Absolute Radio in their ‘Wacky Mobility Race’ Up Pall Mall

5am filming and recording of ‘Mobility Scooter Grand Prix’ for Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell Show

A 28 year-old double Young Entrepreneur winner from Kent is helping one of the leading radio breakfast shows in their ‘Wacky Race’-type Mobility Grand Prix on Thursday 23rd June 2011 from Golden Square in London to Pall Mall in the early hours. Charmaine is providing the Christian O’Connell Show presenters – Maggie, Bails, Richie and Christian mobility scooters and also her Mod ‘Quadraphenia’ Mobility Scooter which was featured in the press last year.

Charmaine Kemp beat off stiff competition from hundreds of young entrepreneurs at the Shell LiveWIRE Awards in 2010; where she won South and South Eastern ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and earlier in the year won ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ for her county of Kent in the Kent Excellence in Business Awards.

Charmaine Kemp started up her business, Wheelie Good Mobility after graduating from University of Greenwich and failing to find employment. Charmaine was quick to realise after graduating in 2008 that the realities of the job market were a little bleak, so her used-mobility scooter business was born. The company is designed to help the elderly and disabled buy mobility scooters at reduced prices, recycling old scooters which would normally end up in landfill. Within six weeks of starting her company, she was granted support from the Prince’s Trust and her business is now growing steadily.

Charmaine Kemp, founder of Wheelie Good Mobility commented on her contribution to the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show: “It is an Absolute privilege to provide scooters for their race. It highlights that Wheelie Good Mobility isn’t just a mobility product retailer – we offer scooter modifications so that disabled and elderly people can express themselves by individualising their scooter.. We’ve already got orders for a mobility scooter with flames up the side with a firey seat and a swashbuckling scooter with a Jolly Roger seat.

Earlier this year, Charmaine also won The Mall’s Retail Factor at Maidstone’s Chequer Shopping Centre, providing her with her third mobility aid outlet in just a year. Charmaine has commented on her success by saying: “It’s clear proof that anyone can start a business from home, with just £500 and a Gumtree account. Two years on, I’m so proud of where the Wheelie Good Team has progressed to and look forward to a prosperous future with our new mail order catalogue!”

The Mobility Grand Prix will set off from Absolute Radio Headquarters in Golden Square to Pall Mall at 4am Thursday, 23rd June, 2011.

PRESS RELEASE - 14TH OCTOBER 2010

LOCAL YOUNG WOMAN IN THE WINS SOUTH and SOUTH EAST REGION ‘YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR’

28-year-old wins regional Young Entrepreneur of the Year

A 28 year-old entrepreneur from Kent is one step closer to business glory after gaining a place in the final for the prestigious Shell LiveWIRE ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award, yesterday in London.

Charmaine Kemp beat off stiff competition from hundreds of young entrepreneurs to gain a place at the ceremony on October 13th; where she won South and South Eastern ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’.

The finalists underwent a rigorous independent judging process by a panel of 10 experts including Dragon’s Den judge Duncan Bannatyne, Apprentice winner and leader of Bright Ideas Trust, Tim Campbell and Hermione Way from Newspepper.com and TechfluffTV.com. Mark Prisk MP, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise delivered a keynote speech and was joined by a range of influential names to crown this year’s Shell LiveWIRE ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’.

James Smith, Chairman of Shell UK, said: ““Entrepreneurs can breathe new life into our economy.  The Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award provides a vital boost to entrepreneurs across the country. I wish Charmaine Kemp and all the other finalists the very best of luck.”

Charmaine Kemp, founder of Wheelie Good Mobility commented on her second entrepreneurial award in this year, after already winning the same award for her county: “Being a graduate during the recession gave me the push I needed to start my own business. I love my job because I get so much from getting people mobility who have been stuck inside because they couldn’t afford a scooter. It is a huge honour to be recognised by a national award. These awards not only inspire but really give businesses the kick-start they need and the business support which follows is a real help.”

The awards ceremony will follow on from an action-packed day at Shell LiveWIRE LIVE! An event for members of Shell LiveWIRE’s 100,000 strong online community of entrepreneurs. The event provides a forum to share ideas, insights and inspiration with young business people from around the country, as well as the chance to attend seminars and workshops and to put questions to top business talent from across the UK including Sir Tom Farmer, founder of Kwik-Fit.
